Paint Dipped Pots

Happy Friday everyone! Last week I shared my paint dipped pots with Vanessa’s readers at See Vanessa Craft. And today I’m sharing them here with you. :)These pots are inspired by the paint dipped furniture I’ve been seeing a lot of lately. Laurel from A Bubbly Life got me started on this trend when she shared her dining room table and chairs makeover. I LOVE the idea and can’t wait to try it on some of my furniture. But until then, let’s start small!

Vanessa’s Crafting on a Dime series features projects under $10. Sticking to my budget, I was able to make three of these little pots for a whopping total of $8.53. If you already have some of the supplies {or coupons}, it would be even less. Or you could make even more. Either way. ;-)

You will need:

  • Clay pots: 4-inch{.99}, 3-inch{.89}, 2-inch{.69}
  • Paint: {1.49 each}- I used 4
  • Paint brush: on hand
  • Rubber band: on hand

1. Paint the clay pots white {or the color of your choosing}. Let dry. Repeat as needed. I did 3 coats.2. Wrap a rubber band around your pot just above where you want the “dipped” color to start. There was no method to my madness here. I just eyeballed it. I tried using painter’s tape at first, but didn’t have the patience skills to make a good circle. And I didn’t want to give up on my little pots! So after thinking about it for 456 thousand hours, I decided to try a rubber band. It was much easier. 3. Apply your “dipped” paint color under the rubber band line. Use very light coats and the fewer, the better. I would recommend light colors over darker colors {the lighter ones are more forgiving}. I ended up hand painting the smallest pot just to test it out. It didn’t come out as well, but it worked.4. Remove the rubber band shortly after you finish painting before the paint is dry. Seriously. If you take it off after it dries, it will look horrible. I might have forgotten about my first pot and had to redo it. Oopsie! This is the tricky step. I kind of pulled one side out and slid my fingers around to the other side, and pulled it off quick like a band-aid. Let it dry.And you’re done! I didn’t get perfect lines all the way around, but they came out pretty good.

I’m not sure what I’ll use them for yet, but they definitely won’t be holding plants. No green thumb here. You also got a little sneak peak of my guest room colors. ;-)

What do you think? I had fun making these little pots, and I hope you do too!

      Thanks, Crystelle! The rubber band definitely comes in handy... might not be as clean as tape but it does the job :)

  5. laurel says:

    Aw, thank you for the mention! A rubberband is BRILLIANT, I hate having to do circles with painter's tape. Isn't it funny how we DIY stuff and have no idea what we will do with it? Lol! They are so pretty- thanks for the font tip btw!

    • Britni says:

      No problem, Laurel! It is funny how we make stuff without knowing what to do with it! Bet it drives the husbands crazy ;) And I'll do anything to avoid making circles with tape so I'm glad I had a rubber band on hand! The tape leaves cleaner lines but the rubber band saves my sanity :)
