While everyone else is probably thinking about Christmas decorations, I’m still working on Fall. Partly because I procrastinate. And partly because ideas randomly come to me, and they almost always come at the last minute. So here I am, walking through the Dollar Spot at Target, when I see these itty bitty little Slinkys. And I think to myself, Aw, how cute! Things are always so much cuter when they’re small! Then I think, Those would make some really cute pumpkins! Just like any normal person would. So I got about 7 for myself and one for my daughter. It seemed fair.
But look! Aren’t they cute? I made two different versions. The first one is made with just pieces of clothespins for decoration. The second one is made with the full clothespin. And I’m thinking they would make really cute place card holders. But for now I’m using mine as a garland. I hung them from some sisal and they are looking pretty cute! Pictures to come. But for now, lets make some cute little pumpkins!
You will need:
- Slinkys
- Clothespins
- Twine, sisal, etc.
- Glue gun
1. Put a big ol’ blob of hot glue on the little knob clip thingy on one end of the slinky, and glue it to the other little knob clip thingy on the other end of the slinky. Sorry about the photo, I realized the only picture I had of the thingies, was one where I missed what I was aiming for. Then I apparently got distracted and forgot to try again.
2. Roll the thingies to the inside of the slinky.
3. For the full clothespin version, put a blob of glue on the knob clip things, and put your clothespin upside down in the center of the slinky. Apply more glue around the sides and front of the opposite side of the clothespin. Hold the slinky tight around it to keep it in place until it holds.
For the partial clothespin version, take your clothespin apart so you have half of it to work with. Apply glue to the knob clip things, and glue the clothespin piece to it. I rolled the knob clips back out so you could see where I glued it to the clothespin half. It fits right in the curve.
4. Now you can add some twine or sisal to it by simply gluing it in place. It fits perfectly in the groove. Then you’ll want to add some glue below it, and hold the slinky firmly around it to keep it in place. Is anyone else seeing a super cute wreath possibility? It’s totally happening!
And that’s it! I’ve got about five of these puppies on some sisal making a pretty and simple garland! And how cute would they be on a Thanksgiving table holding a place card?
Then I’ve got these two cuties just hanging out as decoration.
This is probably one of the simplest projects ever, but it’s definitely one of my favorites! I LOVE my little pumpkins!
Go and get yourselves some Slinkys! And don’t forget to pick one up for the kiddo. :) You may be able to find both clothespins and tiny Slinkys at your local dollar store!
Are you ready for Thanksgiving next week? I can’t believe it’s here already!

These are seriously cute! I love that your creative mind saw slinkys and went "Ah! Pumpkins!" And as always, your photography rocks my socks!
HA! That "creative mind" is probably the same thing that makes my husband go, "Oh crap, what are you doing now?!" ;)
These are darling!! Yay for procrastinating ;)

HAHAHA! Thanks! That is actually a really fun idea to hang a picture of a slinky! I may have to recreate this one day :) I took it at night so it's a little crazy looking. OH that would be hilarious and too much fun if we did a dollar store challenge! Good thing we don't live close to each other, we'd get ourselves in trouble :)
