Blackberry Honey Spritzer {Guest Post}

Hey There! I'm Nicole from WonkyWonderful, nice to meet you all.  First I want to thank the lovely Britni for allowing me to hang out over here at Hubby Made Me!  I am sharing a refreshing and natural soda alternative that is perfect for the upcoming hot summer months.  This Blackberry Honey Spritzer is easy to make, contains all real ingredients and is my new favorite beverage! Blackberry Honey SpritzerIngredients:

  • 2 Cups Fresh Blackberries (1 cup pureed)
  • 6 Tb Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice (2-3 small lemons)
  • 2-4 Tb Honey
  • 2 Cups Filtered Water
  • 1 - 12 oz can of Seltzer Water

 Instructions:

  1. Puree 2 cups of fresh blackberries in blender or food processor.
  2. Push blackberry puree through a mesh strainer to remove seeds. (see photo above)
  3. Combine the blackberry puree, lemon juice, filtered water and honey.
  4. Fill drinking glasses with ice.
  5. Pour blackberry mixture over ice until glasses are 3/4 full.
  6. Top off glasses with seltzer water and Enjoy!

Feel free to tweak these measurements to your taste preferences.  Removing the blackberry seeds is not absolutely necessary, but highly recommended.  This recipe yields 3-4 servings.  I hope you decide to give this bubbly blackberry beverage a try! Or if you are not fan of blackberries, check out my Strawberry Lemonade Fizz.

Cream-Filled Chocolate Cupcakes {Guest Post}

Cream-Filled Chocolate Cupcake Goodness Because I can’t say “Ding Dong” with snickering, I’m just calling these Cream-Filled Chocolate Cupcakes. But you know what they really copies of, right? But even better, because you make them at home! Cupcakes-Title-ChaosServedD I made these for a last-minute bake sale contribution, when I was trying to clean out my pantry for our move, so I used a chocolate cake mix that I had on hand. I usually don’t use cake mixes, because they have so many chemicals and preservatives in them. But occasionally, I succumb to the ease! If you’d like to make the cupcakes from scratch, try this recipe from King Arthur Flour. It makes great basic cupcakes (use coffee, not water, for even more flavor). So anyway, on with the how-to.

Step 1: Cupcakes

Make and bake the cupcakes, 24 of them. Let them cool completely. Then the magical part…adding the cream filling!

Step 2: Cream Filling

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup marshmallow crème

Combine the butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth, then fold in marshmallow crème until well blended. Put a round decorating tip on a pastry bag or ziploc bag and fill the bag with the cream filling. To do this, I stand the bag, tip down, in a large drinking glass and fold the open top over the rim of the glass, then spoon the filling in. Push the tip into each cupcake, give the bag a squeeze (you’ll feel the cupcake get a bit heavier), and pull the tip out. The filling might ooze out a bit, but that’s okay…you’ll cover it with frosting later. Cupcakes-Filled Step 3: Frosting

  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a small saucepan, combine milk, cocoa powder, and butter. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Stir until it starts to thicken slightly (about 3-4 minutes). Drop a tablespoon full onto center of each cupcake. The frosting will thicken quickly, so do not make the frosting until ready to put on cupcakes.

Step 4: Decorate

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tsp water

Mix together. You want a stiff mixture, so you can make the little curly decorations. Spoon into a ziploc and snip off a small corner. Pipe on curls across each cupcake and let sit until hardened. Bake-Sale-Cupcakes-ChaosSer I packed them in some paper bread pans I’d ordered from Pick Your Plum. I think they were a hit, since people were following me into the school office, buying them before the bake sale even started!

By the way, I’m Megan from Chaos Served Daily, where I blog about crafting, cooking, and whatever chaos my three little hooligans are causing. I’d love for you to stop by and say hi! Thanks, Britni, for letting me show these off today!

Brown Paper Bag Popcorn and Free Printable

One day long ago, I discovered the most amazing thing ever. Yes! I’m talking about brown bag popcorn! It’s definitely one of my favorite tricks. And a cute printable turns this into a sweet treat for your little Valentines this year!Brown Bag Popcorn and Free Valentine PrintableIt might take a little experimenting to get the kernel to microwave-time ratio right {depending on your microwave}. I put 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels in a brown paper lunch bag. Then folded the top over about an inch. And folded it over once more. I lay it fold-side down in the microwave {not sure that’s necessary but it just feels right}, and set it for 2 minutes. And out comes a perfect bag of popcorn! You can then add salt, butter, oil, and any other flavoring you like! Or just eat it plain!Brown Bag Popcorn and Free Valentine PrintableNow turn it into an extra special treat for your kiddos to come home to this Valentine’s Day {or any other day of the year}! Just print out the free printable below, and cut the cards out {I left a small white border around the edge of mine}. Take a brown paper lunch bag {not the one you’re making popcorn in} and while it’s still folded, trim the bag to the size you want by cutting the top with decorative scissors or pinking shears. Or regular scissors. It doesn’t have to be fancy! Use a glue stick to attach your printaable card to the front of the bag. Then just open the bag and fill it with your brown bag popcorn! And repeat until you’ve filled all the bags you need!Brown Bag Popcorn and Free Valentine PrintableI made these popcorn bag printables with the champagne texture overlays and the love spell overlay from Life-n-Reflection. The love spell overlay is a FREE download too! You can add such a special touch to your photos with these overlays and they are gorgeous! I was so excited to work with these when Kristy sent them to me this month, and I can’t wait to use them on pictures of my little goob!

Since these aren’t traditional Valentine’s Day colors, you can use them anytime you want to make your kids {or significant other} a special treat! And they match the brown bag really well. ;)

You could always put one of these cards in a lunchbox with a little bag of popcorn too! Super cute! Any other fun ideas you can think of? I want to hear them!

Two-Ingredient Taco Dip

This is probably the quickest and easiest “recipe” ever! And it’s so good! When I was younger, we would have chips and taco dip on movie nights instead of popcorn. We always looked forward to it and I remember being so impressed with myself because I could make it on my own. That’s right! It’s so easy, your kids can make it for you! So when you’re getting ready for the Super Bowl this year, have your kiddos or your husband {yes, even he can do it!} take care of this for you!Two Ingredient Taco DipI love this dip with Ruffles chips, but tortilla chips and even sliced bell peppers are good too. I mix this directly in the sour cream container so you can just pop the lid back on and stick it in the fridge! Eat right out of the container, or dump it in a fancy bowl when guests arrive! I promise I won’t tell! You can also make your own taco seasoning if you want to make it healthier.

Two-Ingredient Taco Dip

Ingredients
  • 16 oz Sour Cream
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning

Instructions
  1. Add entire packet of taco seasoning to sour cream container. Mix well.
  2. Seal with lid and store in refrigerator until serving.

I’m sure there are tons of fun things you could add to this dip and even more fun ways to eat it! Enjoy!
