The 4th of July is quickly approaching and it’s always one of my favorite days of summer! My family gets together for a BBQ every year, but we never do any kind of patriotic-themed decorating. So I thought I was doing pretty good when I bought red, white, and blue serving trays and some matching hot dog baskets for our last gathering. But after I discovered the blogging world, I realized I’m a little behind. OK, I’m a lot behind. So this year, I can’t wait to join in on the fun!!

I found star-shaped silicone molds at Joann the other day. They are a decent size and I actually bought them for a completely different idea that I haven’t gotten around to yet. But I got so excited to use them that I couldn’t wait and came up with another use for them!

Patriotic ice cube stars! A fun {and healthy} way to dress up water!
You will need:
- Wilton Silicone Mini Star Mold {you can also find it on Amazon}
- Ice cube tray with star shapes {found mine at Wal-Mart}
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Water

Wash your fruit and cut the strawberries into smaller pieces. I didn’t cut up the blueberries but it would help to add flavor if you do. Toss some blueberries and strawberries randomly into your silicone mini star mold.

Now cut some more strawberries into even smaller pieces. And toss some into the little ice cube tray. Add blueberries to the other half of the tray. Eat the extras.

Fill the stars with water and put the trays in the freezer. Once they’re done, you can remove the frozen stars and stick them in a freezer bag until you’re ready to use them. But do it quickly so they don’t start to melt and stick together!

Since my pitcher is tall and skinny, and I was only making enough for two, I made one tray of each. But you may want to repeat the process if you have more guests, or buy a few trays to save time. And you’re’ done!

These little stars look even cuter in person, the pictures don’t do them justice!

The strawberries flavored the water really quickly and it was so good!! My husband and I decided this will now be a regular summer treat!

Dress up your water with a little red, white {or clear}, and blue! And have a wonderful 4th of July!!
